Come and hear us speak!
Over the next two weeks we’ll be speaking at four conferences. If you’re interested in attending it's not too late, please get in touch with the organisers!
On 13th October 2010 (tomorrow, so this one may be too late!), Kyla Steenhart (Senior Project Manager, Higher Education) will be running a workshop with Richard Taylor, Director of Division of Corporate affairs & Planning at the University of Leicester on "Course Marketing - segmentation, positioning, design" at the Neil Stewart Associates "Effective Marketing in Higher Education" conference in London. Kyla's session will be highly interactive, reflecting on some past failures in course marketing and offering ideas for future improvements.
 | On 14th October OpinionPanel’s Research Director, Becky Lewis, will be presenting at the Market Research Society’s Financial Services conference on the transition from student bank to graduate bank accounts. We’ve been researching this topic for five years and have some interesting analysis on "High Value Grads" to share.
 | On 15th October, Ben Marks (that’s me!) will be speaking at the AIMRI conference on The Impact of the Internet & Social Media on Research. My presentation, entitled "What would you do for 15 pence?" examines intrinsic and extrinsic motivations for taking part in online surveys, some online survey "crimes" and offers up some tentative solutions.
 | On 19th October 2010, Eleanor Simmons (Associate Director, Higher Education) will be addressing the Neil Stewart 8th Annual National Admission to Higher Education Conference on "What applicants want: open days and induction - enhancing the student experience". Given the current debate on HE tuition fees her analysis will help universities ensure they're communicating effectively and taking full advantage of some of their most important marketing opportunities.

Higher Expectations 2010/11 (HeX)
In times of change you need to know where you stand. Each autumn, we interview more than 12,000 undergraduates from over 150 institutions asking about the recruitment process they've just been through. The results help universities compare their performance to every other institution. HeX helps universities to make smarter decisions and argue effectively – internally and externally – for the right changes. Call Kyla Steenhart on 020 7288 8789 to discuss sample boosting, discounts or any other issues relating to the study.

In the news...
With Lord Browne just releasing the findings from his Independent Review of Higher Education Funding and Student Finance, many people are speculating on the content, timing and impact of the likely ensuing changes which will have to be approved by parliament and therefore may be subject to change. In this context, the University of Leicester’s recent findings (powered by a choice based conjoint study run by OpinionPanel) makes fascinating reading. Leicester argues that the proposed fee level may rise leading to a "flight to quality" and significant differential fees between universities – though most students would still seek to attend university. The research was widely covered from the BBC "broad sheets" to blogs.
