I feel like horror movies have only been properly mastered over the last decade. I’m not about all those so-called classics passed down from our parents: The Exorcist, Frankenstein, Poltergeist. Yeah some of them are ok but old horror films just don’t do it for us, am I right?

So I’ve listed the 41 most decent scary movies to watch this Halloween if you’re living in the 21st Century. You’re welcome…

SCARE-ATHONS: If you and your mates want to pull an all-nighter then these are the films you want. You may have seen them ten times already but that’s because they’re THAT good.

These will keep you up all night…

  • The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, *Annabelle, Anabelle: Creation (*Annabelle can be skipped tbh, it’s not that great. Creations however is a must see).
  • Insidious 1, 2 and 3
  • SAW 1-7
  • The Purge 1,2 and 3
  • Paranormal Activity 1-5
  • Sinister 1 and 2
  • Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2

If you’re going for something longer, for the run up to Halloween, then why not try a scary Netflix series like…

  • Stranger things (Catch up on season 1 so you can watch Season 2 when it premieres on 27th October)
  • Scream (The series is actually really good and has a better story line than the films).

THE SAFE BETS: Other than the epic films mentioned above, these are the movies you can count on for giving you a good scare…

I love The conjuring. Best horror movie ever. I don’t scare easy but this movie really scared me. Especially because it is a true story and at the end of the movie you can see real photos with people fighting the demons

  2. Anne

I grow up watching most of the old horror classic from the times of Jason, Freddy and Micheal so normally it is hard for me to settle down and watch new movies but, I have found most of the Horror you had included in you list to be very amazing to watch, because they have that pull that lures you in before it strikes and makes your heart jump in shock.

Let it be known that if people ask for a good Horror night selection that should have a look at your post, it’s quite amazing!

You should also add in the film IT. Not just the orginal but the 2017 edition as well.

Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm street (the originals, not the awful remakes) are fun to watch as well!

  5. Ksenia

I agree with most of your recommendations and i would add the IT movies if i were you.The fun classics was a great addition to the list for people that don’t enjoy really scary movies as much!
